Chemicals management
Why is this Initiative being taken? • To address public concerns about chemical hazards; • To develop internationally harmonized data sets on the most common chemicals so that our knowledge base is strong and consistent; • To increase the amount of publicly available information about chemicals, thereby demonstrating our commitment to openness and transparency; • To avoid duplication of work at national and regional levels by creating globally harmonised and internationally agreed information about chemicals; • To speed up existing regional and/or global assessment programmes so that information on chemicals is available as swiftly as possible. Is this just an industry initiative? The initiative is being carried out in partnership with the Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD) under its own HPV Chemicals Assessment Programme. The assessments are being developed in close collaboration with individual Member countries, and the conclusions are then agreed OECD-wide. Full details can be found on the International Council of Chemical Associations (ICCA) website. |
